On Monday, December 21, despite the recent snow, more than 200 supporters of the Atwater Kent Museum of Philadelphia and Sam Katz's History Making Productions
(www.historyofphilly.com) came together at the Independence Visitor Center
(www.independencevisitorcenter.com) to witness the donation of Jimmy Rollins' uniform to the city history museum, and view a preview of the baseball segment (narrated by Rollins) from Katz's latest project: Philadelphia: The Great Experiment, a video documentary on the history of Philadelphia.
David Montgomery was also present to donate items of memorabilia from the 2008 and 2009 Phillies teams to the museum including 2008 and 2009 team-signed World Series balls, a J.A. Happ game-thrown ball from game 5 of the 2009 NLCS, a lineup card from game 3 of the 2008 World Series, signed by Jamie Moyer, the starting pitcher of that game; and a champagne bottle from the 2008 World Series locker room celebration. PA Representative James Roebuck made an appearance to present Rollins with a citation that had been drafted in 2007 in recognition of his MVP award. "You know how long it takes us to get things done in the legislature sometimes," Roebuck joked. Mayor Nutter also attended and publicly thanked Rollins for his contribution to the preservation of city history.
When the Atwater Kent Museum of Philadelphia reopens in late 2010, after a $6 million renovation, Rollins' uniform will be placed in the newly created Sports Gallery.
